Polygon Partnership Drives Faster Payments Across Africa

Flutterwave Selects Polygon as Blockchain Partner to Power African Cross-Border Payments

In a landmark move for the African fintech landscape, leading payments infrastructure provider Flutterwave has officially named Polygon PoS as its primary blockchain partner. This strategic alliance will underpin Flutterwave’s new cross-border payment product, aiming to solve long-standing challenges in international transactions. Flutterwave, which has already processed over $40 billion in transaction volume, is leveraging Polygon’s established reputation as a premier blockchain for payments and Real World Assets (RWA) to bring enhanced speed, efficiency, and lower costs to its vast user base. This collaboration marks a significant step in integrating cutting-edge blockchain solutions into the core of Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.

Integrating High-Performance Blockchain for a New Era of Payments

The core of this partnership involves Flutterwave integrating Polygon’s high-performance blockchain infrastructure. This technology is designed to enable significantly faster and cheaper cross-border payments for Flutterwave’s extensive network of global multinationals, including prominent clients like Uber and Audiomack. The implementation will be strategic and phased. It begins in 2025 with a pilot program offered to a select group of Flutterwave for Business customers. Following a successful pilot, the full-scale solution will be rolled out by 2026, becoming available to all Flutterwave for Business clients and users of the popular Send App. This progressive rollout ensures a smooth transition while scaling the benefits of blockchain-powered remittances and seamless international payments across the platform.

This collaboration directly addresses a critical challenge for businesses operating in and out of Africa. As highlighted by the partnership’s announcement, “Thriving African businesses lose revenue each year to slow, expensive cross-border payments.” Flutterwave recognizes this issue and sees a powerful solution in blockchain technology. By utilizing stablecoins on the Polygon network, the company aims to “advance settlement” processes, drastically reducing the time and cost associated with traditional payment rails. Ultimately, this partnership is not just a technological upgrade but a fundamental enhancement to the financial infrastructure supporting African commerce, promising greater efficiency and economic opportunity for businesses and individuals alike.
