Audit Exposes NSS Payments to Underage Children and Elderly, Totalling Over GH¢1.9 Million

A forensic audit report has revealed significant irregularities within Ghana’s National Service Authority (NSA), specifically regarding payments made through the Client Service Management Portal (CSMP) and Metric App. The audit corroborates allegations against former NSA appointees, who are already facing prosecution, pointing to a misuse of funds.

Irregular Payments Uncovered

The audit, covering the service years 2022/2023 to 2024/2025, identified numerous anomalies in the age profiles of enrolled national service personnel. Shockingly, individuals well below the eligible age of 18, including children as young as eight years old, were enrolled and received allowances. The total amount paid to underage individuals reached GH¢1,313,144.29. Furthermore, the report uncovered that elderly individuals, also ineligible for national service, were similarly paid allowances. In total, these improper payments to individuals outside the eligible age range amounted to nearly GH¢2 million (GH¢1,900,000).

These findings raise serious concerns about the integrity of the NSA’s payroll system and the oversight mechanisms in place. The unauthorized payments not only represent a misuse of public funds but also undermine the purpose of the National Service Scheme. Further investigations and stricter controls will be necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
