GNPC Gears Up for Advanced Seismic Data Acquisition in Voltaian Basin
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is poised to commence advanced seismic data acquisition utilizing Ocean Bottom Node Seismic technology and a 4D seismic facility in the Voltaian Basin. This marks a significant step in GNPC’s long-term strategy to transform the basin into a thriving petroleum exploration hub, bolstering national energy security and fostering economic diversification.
Voltaian Basin Project Advancement
According to GNPC’s 2024 Annual Report, Acting Chief Executive Kwame Ntow Amoah emphasized the strategic importance of this project. The transition of the Voltaian Basin’s management to Explorco, GNPC’s upstream subsidiary, aims to inject technical agility and a sharper operational focus into exploration activities. To date, GNPC has processed 1,040 line-kilometres of 2D seismic data and obtained a two-year reconnaissance license from the Ministry of Energy, enabling further advancements in the Voltaian Basin Project.
This initiative underscores GNPC’s commitment to expanding Ghana’s petroleum resources and solidifying its position as a key player in the regional energy landscape. The advanced seismic data acquisition will provide critical insights into the basin’s potential, paving the way for future exploration and development activities.
