Technology News: 24-Hour Economy Hinges on Reliable Energy in Ghana

Ghana’s business sector is emphasizing the critical need for consistent and cost-effective energy solutions to facilitate the country’s ambitious drive toward a “24-hour economy.” The call for improved energy access comes as businesses look to expand their operations and contribute to Ghana’s industrialization goals.

GUTA President Highlights Energy Concerns

Speaking at the Power Energy Ghana Expo and BuildExpo Ghana 2025, Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), voiced increasing anxiety about the high cost of power. He stated that these elevated expenses are placing a significant burden on manufacturers and traders as they aim to grow their businesses and compete effectively on a global scale. Obeng asserted that dependable and affordable energy is essential for Ghana to succeed in its industrialization efforts. He warned that relying on outdated or expensive energy sources would undermine the nation’s progress and competitiveness. Former President Mahama has clarified that the 24-hour economy initiative is a comprehensive business transformation, not simply an extension of working hours.

In conclusion, the availability of affordable and reliable energy is being positioned as a cornerstone for Ghana’s economic development. The business community’s concerns highlight the urgent need for strategic investments in the energy sector to support the nation’s industrialization agenda and enable a thriving 24-hour economy.
