MTN Ghana Achieves Remarkable 36% Revenue Surge in Q3 2025 Amidst Digital Transformation
MTN Ghana has reported an exceptionally strong financial performance for the nine months concluding September 30, 2025. The telecommunications giant saw its revenue climb significantly, propelled by substantial double-digit growth across its data and mobile money services, underscoring a successful pivot in its operational strategy within the dynamic African tech market.
Key Financial Highlights and Strategic Shift
The period saw MTN Ghana’s service revenue soar by an impressive 36.3% year-on-year, reaching GHS 17.3 billion. This robust growth translated directly to its profitability, with Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) increasing by 41.6% to GHS 10.2 billion, achieving a strong margin of 58.4%, a 2.2 percentage point improvement. Profit after tax also saw a significant boost, jumping by 45.9% to GHS 5.5 billion, reflecting efficient operations and a growing customer base.
A cornerstone of this success is the accelerated shift towards a data- and fintech-driven business model, aligning perfectly with MTN’s overarching Ambition 2025 strategy. Data revenue emerged as a dominant force, surging by 46.8% to GHS 9.3 billion and now constituting more than half of the total service revenue. This growth was supported by an 11.4% increase in active data users, reaching 18.9 million. Fintech revenue also demonstrated strong momentum, growing 39.2% to GHS 4.3 billion, highlighting the increasing adoption of mobile money services across Ghana. While voice revenue still grew by a healthy 9.3%, the burgeoning demand for digital services was further evident as digital entertainment services more than doubled, hitting GHS 324 million, signalling a clear consumer appetite for streaming and gaming.
MTN Ghana’s latest financial results vividly illustrate its successful transition from traditional voice-centric services to a diversified digital ecosystem. The substantial gains in data and fintech revenues not only solidify MTN’s market leadership but also position it as a key driver of digital inclusion and economic growth across the West African region. This strategic evolution underscores the massive potential for telecommunications companies that embrace innovation and adapt to the evolving demands of the African digital consumer.
