GTCO’s HabariPay Sees Profit Surge, Doubles to N4.02 Billion in H1 2025
HabariPay Limited, Guaranty Trust Holding Company’s (GTCO) fintech subsidiary, has announced a remarkable performance for the first half of 2025. The company reported a profit before tax of N4.02 billion, nearly doubling its earnings compared to the same period in the previous year, signaling the success of GTCO’s diversification strategy into the rapidly growing fintech space.
Driving Growth Through Digital Payments
According to GTCO’s financial report for the period ending June 30, 2025, HabariPay’s profit accounts for roughly 0.67% of the group’s total pre-tax earnings. This represents a significant leap from the N2.07 billion profit recorded in the first half of 2024, demonstrating a substantial 95% year-on-year growth. The surge in profitability is largely attributed to the increasing adoption of digital payment solutions across Nigeria, driven by their convenience, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. HabariPay’s operating income also experienced substantial growth, increasing by 82% to N5.05 billion, up from N2.77 billion in H1 2024. This revenue surge was fueled by higher transaction volumes and wider service accessibility.
HabariPay’s impressive financial results underscore the growing importance of fintech in the Nigerian financial landscape. The company’s ability to capitalize on the increasing demand for digital payment solutions has not only boosted its own profitability but also contributed to GTCO’s overall financial performance, providing a buffer amidst challenges in its core banking operations.
