Airtel Africa’s Profit Soars by 375% in H1 2025

Airtel Africa has announced a significant surge in its financial performance, reporting a profit after tax (PAT) of $376 million for the first half of 2025. This represents a remarkable 375.3% year-on-year increase, according to the company’s financial statement released on Tuesday, marking a period ending on September 20, 2025.

Key Growth Drivers

The impressive growth is attributed to a combination of factors, primarily an expanding customer base and confidence in the effectiveness of Airtel Africa’s strategic initiatives. The company highlighted recent innovations, such as the Airtel Spam alert, aimed at enhancing user experience and maximizing revenue generation. The expansion of its digital offerings, particularly driving adoption of the myAirtel app, has also played a crucial role. Airtel Africa now serves 173.8 million customers across its 14 African markets, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the 156.6 million recorded 12 months prior. The company’s data subscriber base also experienced substantial growth, with an 18.4% increase from 66 million to 78.1 million, indicating increasing smartphone penetration and higher data usage across the continent. According to Airtel Africa’s Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar, the increase in smartphone penetration is now at 46.8%.

This impressive performance underscores Airtel Africa’s strong position in the African telecommunications market. The company’s strategic focus on expanding its customer base, enhancing its digital offerings, and leveraging technological innovations is clearly paying dividends, driving significant profit growth and solidifying its presence across the continent.
