FG Partners with Telcos to Empower Nigerian Teachers Through Tech
The Nigerian Federal Government is set to boost the capabilities of teachers across the nation with a new initiative providing free internet access and subsidized mobile devices. This program, a collaboration between the government and major telecommunication companies like MTN and Airtel, aims to equip educators with the tools necessary for enhanced classroom delivery and continuous professional development.
Bridging the Digital Divide in Education
The pilot phase of the project will commence in December 2025 and run through July 2026, initially targeting 8,000 teachers nationwide. According to a statement made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the initiative is designed to remove financial obstacles hindering technology adoption in education. By providing zero-rated data access, teachers can leverage the Federal Government’s eLearn Platform and other approved digital resources without incurring data costs. This vital step lays the groundwork for a more inclusive and digitally driven learning environment across Nigeria. Partner telcos and Internet Exchange providers will power this zero-rated data access, marking a significant investment in the future of Nigerian education.
