Air Algérie Welcomes First Airbus A330-900 as Fleet Renewal Takes Flight

Air Algérie is set to usher in a new era of its operations with the highly anticipated arrival of its first new Airbus A330-900. Hamza Benhamouda, the CEO of Algeria’s national airline, officially announced that this state-of-the-art aircraft will land at Algiers airport on November 12. This significant event marks the tangible commencement of Air Algérie’s ambitious fleet modernization and expansion program, initially launched in 2023, signaling a major step forward for the carrier and its customers across the African continent and beyond.

Charting a Course for Modernization and Expansion

The arrival of the Airbus A330-900 is not merely an isolated event but the “coup d’envoi” for a comprehensive initiative aimed at acquiring 18 new aircraft. Mr. Benhamouda shared these details with the press on the sidelines of the inaugural flight ceremony for the new Algiers-N’Djamena route at Algiers International Airport. This extensive program will see three additional Airbus A330-900 jets integrated into Air Algérie’s fleet before the close of 2025, with more deliveries of this type expected to continue into 2026. Parallel to these long-haul additions, 2026 will also mark the beginning of deliveries for ATR 72-600 aircraft. These regional turboprops are specifically earmarked for “Domestic Airlines,” a newly established subsidiary designed to significantly bolster Algeria’s internal flight network. Looking further ahead, the modernization momentum is set to continue with additional fleet enhancements planned from 2027 onwards, solidifying Air Algérie’s commitment to upgrading its services and reach.

This strategic fleet overhaul underscores Air Algérie’s dedication to enhancing passenger experience through advanced comfort and efficiency, while simultaneously expanding its domestic and international network. By integrating modern aircraft like the Airbus A330-900 and ATR 72-600, the airline is poised to strengthen its operational capabilities, reinforcing its position as a key player in the vibrant and growing African aviation sector, and offering improved connectivity for travelers.
