Algeria Pioneers Advanced Drone Control and Jamming Master’s Program

Algeria has taken a significant stride in cutting-edge technology education with the launch of its inaugural Master’s degree in Drone Control and Jamming Systems. The landmark program was officially unveiled on Tuesday at the Houari-Boumediene University of Science and Technology (USTHB) in Bab Ezzouar by Mr. Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to fostering a new generation of highly skilled professionals capable of navigating the complex landscape of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, positioning the nation as a key player in advanced tech development within Africa.

Developing Indigenous Expertise for Strategic Technological Autonomy

The newly introduced two-year Master’s program is meticulously designed to cultivate a highly specialized talent pool. Its inaugural cohort comprises 30 students, meticulously selected from various universities across the country, specializing in critical fields such such as electronics, electrical engineering, telecommunications, and automation. This interdisciplinary approach ensures a comprehensive academic, technical, and scientific education. Minister Baddari emphasized the “sensitive” nature and strategic importance of this Master’s, developed in close collaboration with the National Higher School of Autonomous Systems (ENSSA). The primary objective is to equip Algerian engineers and executives with profound expertise in unmanned aircraft technology. A key feature of the program is its direct pathway to employment; upon graduation, students are guaranteed recruitment into the Industrial Technology Research Center (CRTI) and similar national institutions, ensuring a seamless transition from academia to high-impact research and development roles. This forward-thinking strategy aims to bolster Algeria’s technological autonomy and reinforce its capacity for innovation in critical industrial and defense applications, reflecting a proactive approach to national skill development in advanced systems.
