Algerian Minister Taha Derbal Champions Remote Water Management for Modernization
Algeria is taking a significant step towards modernizing its water management infrastructure. During a visit to the Saïda province, Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, highlighted the importance of implementing a remote management system for the potable water network. This initiative underscores Algeria’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved public services and aligns with broader efforts across the African continent to embrace digital solutions.
Telemanagement: A Digital Leap for Water Efficiency
Minister Derbal emphasized that the telemanagement system will enable remote monitoring and control of various water supply installations. This includes valves, pipelines, pumping stations, and reservoirs. The move to digital water management is expected to lead to a more precise and efficient operation of the water network. Derbal stated that the implementation, spearheaded by the Algérienne des Eaux (Algerian Water Company), offers “an effective solution for better time management and for avoiding the technical problems that hinder water network management.” This modernization is poised to improve public services for Algerian citizens by optimizing resource allocation and reducing potential disruptions.
In line with the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives for digitalization, the telemanagement project marks a strategic push for technological advancement within the water sector, aiming for a more resilient and citizen-centric approach to water resource management.
