Leoni Tunisie Powers Up with Solar, Slashes Electricity Bill by 40%

Leoni Tunisie, a leading player in the automotive cabling industry, is making a significant stride in its energy transition strategy by implementing a photovoltaic park across its Tunisian facilities. The bold move aims to dramatically reduce the company’s electricity bill by 40%, translating to an impressive annual saving of nearly $9.1 million. This strategic investment highlights the growing trend of renewable energy adoption in Africa, specifically within the manufacturing sector.

Solar Powering Tunisian Operations

The initiative involves a strategic partnership with Empower New Energy (Norway) and AR Solaire to deploy solar installations across Leoni Tunisie’s 10 strategic sites located throughout the country, including Menzel Hayet, Kalâa Kebira, multiple locations in Mateur, and Messaâdine. The total investment for this ambitious photovoltaic program is estimated at $9.16 million. The project will generate a power capacity of 7.5 MWp, with an anticipated annual production of 12.4 MW, designed to offset a substantial portion of Leoni Tunisie’s current electricity consumption.

This shift to solar energy aligns perfectly with Leoni Tunisie’s commitment to decarbonization, reducing its carbon footprint, and enhancing its energy independence. This project exemplifies how African businesses are actively pursuing sustainable practices, driving the continent’s progress towards a greener future.
