Sorce: The “Tinder for Jobs” Startup That Landed a Spot at Y Combinator
Oluwapelumi Dada, along with his co-founders David Alade and Daniel Ajayi, experienced a pivotal moment when they received an email from David Lieb, a prominent figure known for his work with Google Photos and as a General Partner at Y Combinator (YC). This email led to a call where Lieb informed them of their acceptance into the prestigious YC program for their startup, Sorce. The team was thrilled, especially considering they had submitted their application after the initial deadline and were accepted soon after.
From Viral Sensation to YC Acceptance
While the acceptance into YC was a cause for celebration, it wasn’t entirely unexpected. Sorce, initially launched as Swype in August 2024, had already achieved significant traction on social media. The platform quickly gained popularity worldwide, attracting users from almost every country, with the notable exceptions of North Korea and a few others. In an interview with Techpoint Africa, Dada explained Sorce’s concept, describing it as a “Tinder for jobs,” a platform designed to simplify the job application process through a swiping interface. Sorce aims to alleviate the repetitive and tedious task of repeatedly entering the same information when applying for multiple positions.
Sorce’s innovative approach to job searching, combined with its rapid viral growth, undoubtedly played a crucial role in securing its place at Y Combinator. The future looks bright for this African startup as they embark on their YC journey, poised to disrupt the traditional job application landscape.
