Ido Sum, a partner at TLcom Capital, a prominent venture capital firm focused on investing in African tech startups, is leaving his position after a significant 14-year tenure. Sum’s departure marks a transition for the firm, which has become a key player in funding early to growth-stage, tech-enabled businesses throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
Sum’s Impact at TLcom
Joining TLcom in 2011 and operating from its London office, Sum played a crucial role in shaping the firm’s investment strategy and portfolio. He actively supported and guided several high-profile portfolio companies, including Andela, FairMoney, uLesson, Twiga, Zone, and Autochek. As one of five partners, Sum was particularly involved with startups like Zone, a blockchain-based payment infrastructure provider, the Nigerian edtech platform uLesson, South African fintech Littlefish, and Ilara Health, which focuses on affordable diagnostics in Kenya. He also served on the boards of these four companies, demonstrating his commitment to their growth and success.
