Dr. Moka Lantum of CheckUPS COVA, a returning participant, exemplified the Angel Fair Africa success story. As he pitched at AFA@12, he shared his journey, recalling his participation in the 2016 Angel Fair Africa in Kenya. He raised capital for his first startup, MicroClinics, which he successfully built and sold. He then reinvested the proceeds into CheckUPS COVA, highlighting the cyclical nature of success fostered by the AFA. Similarly, Melissa McCoy, CEO of Connected Med, shared her story of participating in the 4th Angel Fair Africa in 2016 in Nairobi. She secured funding, developed her venture, and ultimately sold the asset to Merck, a multinational pharmaceutical company, before joining Google.
Angel Fair Africa has facilitated over $100 million in deals since its inception. With demonstrable exit track records like CheckUPS COVA, the event in New York served as a testament to its ongoing contribution to the African tech ecosystem.
