Artificial Intelligence Makes its Mark: Africa’s Role in the AI Revolution

Houda Ghozzi, founder of Open Startup (OST), delivered a compelling speech at the UNDP AI Hub side event during the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, emphasizing Africa’s crucial role in the burgeoning artificial intelligence landscape. Her insights shed light on how AI is rapidly transforming the continent’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

OST’s Perspective on AI Adoption

Drawing upon OST’s decade-long experience of supporting over 600 startups and 5,000 African entrepreneurs across 19 countries, Ghozzi highlighted the pervasive impact of AI. Supported by collaborations with MIT, Columbia University, and other international partners, OST has witnessed a significant shift. Ghozzi noted that AI has transitioned from being a specialized vertical to a horizontal force, influencing all sectors. According to her, over 40% of the startups OST works with are now AI-driven, demonstrating AI’s increasing importance in creating and managing businesses across the board.

In conclusion, Ghozzi’s address underscores the growing significance of AI in Africa’s economic development, marking a pivotal moment where African entrepreneurs are not just participating in the AI revolution but actively shaping its trajectory.
