MTN Hit with Another Blow as Chief Innovation Officer Herman Singh Resigns

Africa’s telecommunications giant, MTN Group, is facing yet more turbulence as it navigates what appears to be its most challenging year. Bloomberg reports that Herman Singh, the Chief Innovation Officer, is set to depart the company, adding to a growing list of high-profile executive exits in 2018. This news further compounds the pressures MTN is currently experiencing, particularly in the wake of ongoing issues in Nigeria.

Executive Exodus at MTN Intensifies

Singh, who joined MTN in 2016, is reportedly leaving to pursue his own tech startup venture. While MTN has yet to officially confirm Singh’s resignation, his departure follows closely on the heels of other significant leadership changes. Stephen Van Coller, the former head of digital services, resigned in August 2018 after a tenure of less than two years. Furthermore, Babak Fouladi, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), has already confirmed his resignation and is slated to assume the same position at Dutch telecom company KPN NV.

The consecutive departures of key executives like Singh, Van Coller, and Fouladi raise concerns about stability and strategic direction within MTN, particularly as the company grapples with a complex and evolving African telecommunications landscape.
