Emtel Fortifies Cybersecurity Defenses with NEC XON Partnership

Mauritius-based telecommunications provider Emtel is significantly upgrading its cybersecurity infrastructure through a strategic alliance with NEC XON, a prominent ICT systems integrator operating across Africa. This collaboration aims to enhance Emtel’s ability to defend against the growing sophistication and persistence of cyber threats targeting the telecoms sector.

Enhancing Threat Detection and Response

The core of this cybersecurity modernisation initiative involves the deployment of Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR, coupled with NEC XON’s expert-led Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services. According to Armand Kruger, Head of Cybersecurity at NEC XON, this solution leverages artificial intelligence to provide superior threat detection and accelerate incident response times. Kruger emphasized that the AI-driven system allows Emtel to proactively identify and neutralize cyber threats, dramatically reducing the period a threat can dwell within the network undetected.

Emtel CEO Kresh Goomany underscores the critical importance of cybersecurity in the telecom industry, stating, “In the telecoms sector, where service continuity and data integrity are critical, cybersecurity is not optional — it’s mission-critical.” He believes this partnership enables Emtel to adopt a more proactive, intelligence-led approach to cyber resilience, ultimately safeguarding its operations and customers. The partnership represents a significant step forward in strengthening Emtel’s defenses in an increasingly challenging digital landscape.
