Taiwan Unblocks South Africa: A Digital Trailblazer’s Impact
Solomon Kershima, a digital innovation leader and Mandela Washington Fellow (2025), is making a significant impact on the African tech landscape. Founder of Skyhub Nigeria, a grassroots digital hub, Kershima is empowering young people with crucial digital skills and fostering entrepreneurship, contributing to digital transformation across the African continent.
Digital Empowerment and Community Development in Nigeria
Skyhub Nigeria, founded by Kershima, is a testament to the power of community-driven digital initiatives. The hub has already trained over 10,000 youths, provided support to more than 1,500 businesses, and successfully incubated 12 startups. The programs at Skyhub focus on essential digital skills, including software development, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship. Kershima’s work extends beyond Skyhub; as Group Head of Startup Support, Innovative Solutions, and Digital Skills at the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), he leads e-governance projects and statewide digital transformation efforts. Kershima’s work ensures that digital opportunities are accessible to everyone, regardless of location. Explaining his job to a five-year-old, Kershima likens his work to teaching people to build anything they can imagine using Lego blocks. The motivation behind starting Skyhub Nigeria stemmed from a desire to bridge the digital skills gap and provide access to opportunities for young people, mirroring the chances available in more prominent urban areas.
