Kotama Agrifood Complex Inaugurated: A Landmark for Algerian Agri-Industry

In a significant boost to Algeria’s agri-food sector, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb officially inaugurated the Kotama Agrifood complex this Monday, September 22. Located in Bazoul, Tahir, within the Jijel wilaya, this sprawling facility is set to become a cornerstone of the nation’s agricultural independence. As a strategic asset of Madar Holding, Kotama Agrifood specializes in large-scale oilseed crushing and the production of vital animal feed, marking a pivotal moment for domestic industrial capacity and food security.

A New Era for Agri-Industrial Production in Jijel

Spanning an impressive area of over 25 hectares, the Kotama Agrifood complex boasts a formidable daily processing capability of 5,000 tonnes of raw materials. This translates to an annual capacity of 1.65 million tonnes of oilseeds, establishing it as a major player in regional supply chains. From these extensive operations, the complex is projected to yield 1.2 million tonnes of high-quality animal feed and 300,000 tonnes of crude vegetable oil annually, according to figures released by Madar Holding. During his visit, Prime Minister Ghrieb initiated operations at Unit 15, a critical component of the complex, underscoring its readiness for immediate production. He then proceeded to Unit 16, the dedicated oilseed crushing facility, where he formally inaugurated the complex’s corporate headquarters. A key highlight of the tour included a visit to the state-of-the-art data center, a testament to modern industrial planning. Here, the Prime Minister received comprehensive briefings, highlighting the sophisticated technological infrastructure underpinning Kotama Agrifood’s operations and its potential as a model for data-driven manufacturing in Africa.

The launch of Kotama Agrifood signifies a monumental leap forward for Algeria’s agricultural economy. This advanced complex is not merely an industrial facility; it represents a strategic investment in food security, aiming to significantly reduce reliance on imports for essential commodities like animal feed and vegetable oil. By enhancing local production capabilities and integrating cutting-edge technology, Kotama Agrifood is poised to drive sustainable growth, create numerous employment opportunities, and solidify Algeria’s position as a burgeoning force in the African agri-industrial landscape.
