Mastercard Pushes Forward with AI-Powered Commerce Solutions
Mastercard is taking significant strides in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into digital commerce, partnering with key players like Stripe, Google, and Ant International’s Antom to make secure and scalable AI agentic transactions a reality for merchants and platforms worldwide. This initiative aims to revolutionize the payment landscape with AI, providing new tools for developers, expanding consulting services, and fostering deeper collaboration across the global technology and finance ecosystem.
Accelerating AI Adoption with New Tools
To facilitate faster adoption, Mastercard is introducing new resources for developers and businesses. The Agent Toolkit, available on Mastercard Developers, empowers AI assistants and agentic tools to seamlessly integrate with the Mastercard network. All U.S. Mastercard cardholders will be enabled for the Mastercard Agent Pay program, with plans for a global rollout soon after. Citi and U.S. Bank Mastercard cardholders will be the first to experience AI-enabled shopping, facilitated by agentic commerce providers and enablers such as PayOS and Firmly. AI, Basis Theory, and other industry players are also going live.
Mastercard’s commitment to AI-driven commerce promises a more streamlined and efficient payment experience for both merchants and consumers. By collaborating with industry leaders and providing accessible tools, Mastercard is paving the way for a future where AI plays a central role in digital transactions, potentially opening new doors for African businesses and consumers to participate in the global digital economy.
