Ghana and China Poised to Sign Landmark Climate Sustainability MoU

Ghana and China are on the verge of formalizing their collaborative efforts in climate sustainability through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement signals a deepening partnership aimed at addressing climate change and promoting green initiatives within Ghana, leveraging China’s growing commitment to renewable energy projects in Africa.

Deepening Climate Cooperation

According to Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), the MoU will solidify the increasing cooperation between the two nations in tackling climate-related challenges. China has already announced ambitious plans to implement over 30 renewable energy projects across the African continent in the next three years, with Ghana anticipated to be a significant recipient of this investment. While the MoU wasn’t officially signed during the inaugural Ghana-China Summit held in Accra on September 16, 2025, the groundwork has been laid for its imminent completion. A joint implementation team is set to be established to ensure the effective oversight and execution of the agreement, aligning national and local priorities for both countries.

In conclusion, the impending MoU between Ghana and China represents a significant step forward in fostering climate sustainability and promoting renewable energy adoption within Ghana. This partnership promises to unlock opportunities for green growth and contribute to a more sustainable future for both nations.
