Call for Consultants: Digitizing Patent and Trademark Licensing in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria is seeking experienced consultancy services to digitize and automate its processes for patent and trademark licensing. This initiative is a core part of the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) Programme, which aims to stimulate entrepreneurship, foster innovation, generate employment, and drive economic transformation within Nigeria’s digital technology and creative sectors. The iDICE Programme is being financed through a partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) under Financing Agreement reference number 2000200005160 and Project ID No.: P-NG-K00-009.

iDICE Programme and Enabling Environment for Startups

A key objective of the iDICE Programme is to establish a supportive ecosystem for startups within Nigeria. This involves addressing existing gaps and leveraging ongoing initiatives to promote growth and development in the technology and creative landscape. Component 3 of the programme specifically focuses on creating an enabling environment. The digitization and automation of patent and trademark licensing processes will streamline operations, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and ultimately empower startups and established businesses alike within the technology and creative sectors, encouraging innovation and protecting intellectual property rights.

This strategic investment in digital infrastructure and process optimization reflects the Nigerian government’s commitment to fostering a thriving digital economy. By modernizing the patent and trademark licensing system, the iDICE programme aims to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s creative and technological talent, driving sustainable economic growth and creating opportunities for its citizens. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the ease of doing business within the technology and creative industries, making Nigeria a more attractive destination for investment and innovation.
