NIN Milestone: Over 123 Million Nigerians Now in National Identity Database
Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a significant leap in its national identity project. As of today, over 123 million Nigerians have been successfully enrolled and captured within the National Identity database, each possessing a unique National Identification Number (NIN). This milestone marks substantial progress in the country’s efforts to establish a comprehensive and reliable identification system.
Expanding the Reach of National Identity
The Director General/CEO of NIMC, Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote, revealed this achievement during the 7th National Day of Identity conference held in Abuja. Coker-Odusote emphasized the expanding reach of the national identity project, noting that the enrollment drive has extended beyond Nigeria’s borders. Impressively, 52% of Nigerians residing in the diaspora have now been captured in the database. Furthermore, the commission has made considerable progress within the nation’s correctional facilities, successfully enrolling 85% of inmates. These figures demonstrate NIMC’s dedication to inclusivity and comprehensive data capture across various segments of the Nigerian population, which is crucial for effective governance, security, and access to essential services.
This achievement underscores the NIMC’s dedication to creating a robust and inclusive national identity system.
