Driving Digital Transformation: Nigeria Seeks Experts for Patent and Trademark Licensing Digitization

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is spearheading a significant initiative to modernize its intellectual property landscape, issuing a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) for consultancy services. This pivotal call targets specialized firms to undertake the digitization and automation of the process for patent and trademark licensing. Funded through a collaborative effort from the African Development Bank (AfDB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), this project is a core component of the broader Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) Programme, aimed at propelling Nigeria’s burgeoning Technology and Creative Sector forward.

The iDICE Programme: Fostering Innovation and an Enabling Environment

The iDICE Programme (Financing Agreement reference: 2000200005160, Project ID No.: P-NG-K00-009) is a strategic intervention designed to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential. Its overarching objective is to promote entrepreneurship, stimulate innovation, create vital job opportunities, enhance social development, and achieve economic transformation. This is accomplished by fostering sustainable growth within the nation’s dynamic digital technology and creative ecosystem, leveraging existing infrastructure and ongoing national initiatives. Comprising three major components that address specific gaps, the digitization of patent and trademark licensing falls under Component 3. This crucial segment focuses on creating an enabling environment for startups, recognizing that streamlined and efficient intellectual property processes are fundamental to supporting innovators and fostering a robust ecosystem for new businesses in Nigeria’s vibrant tech sector.

This essential digitization and automation effort will significantly enhance the ease of doing business for entrepreneurs, inventors, and creative professionals across Nigeria. By modernizing the patent and trademark licensing system, the FGN is laying a foundational pillar for a more transparent, efficient, and accessible IP framework. This will not only protect innovation more effectively but also attract further investment and accelerate growth within Nigeria’s digital and creative industries. Professional consultants with expertise in digital transformation and process automation are encouraged to respond to this vital call, contributing to Nigeria’s journey towards a digitally empowered future.
