Global Tech Roundup: Virtual Ceremonies, Touchscreen Controlled Spacecraft

This week in tech saw continued challenges with layoffs and furloughs impacting numerous companies. Despite this, several innovative developments and unusual stories captured global attention. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights you might have missed.

Elon Musk’s Son Named X Æ A-12

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and musician Grimes (Claire Boucher) welcomed a new baby into the world. In a surprising move, they announced their son’s name as X Æ A-12. The unconventional name immediately sparked widespread curiosity and confusion, as it resembled more of an alphanumeric code than a typical name. Grimes later explained the meaning behind the name via Twitter: “X” represents the unknown variable, “Æ” is her elven spelling of AI (love &/or Artificial Intelligence), and “A-12” is a precursor to the SR-17, their favorite aircraft, emphasizing its speed and non-violent nature. She further added that A also stands for Archangel, her favorite song, with some additional symbolism related to the Chinese zodiac sign metal rat.

Despite the economic headwinds, the tech world continues to innovate and surprise. From unusual baby names to advancements in space technology, there’s always something new on the horizon.
