Diving Deep into the MTN Media Innovation Programme

This completely sponsored programme is a collaborative effort, partnering with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the African Editors Forum (TAEF). Designed as a 12-week, certified programme, the MIP targets experienced media professionals throughout Africa. Participants will gain advanced skills in critical areas such as innovation, digital storytelling, cutting-edge technology, and in-depth policy reporting. Participants will gain access to encrypted communication software, providing a secure platform for information exchange. The program also incorporates specialized workshops focused on fact-checking methodologies, alongside mentorship networks designed to support the development of emerging journalists. Dominic Khumalo, Senior Manager of Public Affairs at MTN, speaking on behalf of the Group Chairman’s office, emphasized the program’s objective to reshape the future of African media. He highlighted the MIP’s role in empowering Africans to share their narratives authentically, using their own voices and reflecting the true realities of the continent.

In conclusion, the MTN Media Innovation Programme underscores MTN’s proactive investment in the African media sector. By providing specialized training, resources, and mentorship, MTN is playing a vital role in shaping a more innovative, digitally-savvy, and empowered media landscape across Africa.
