Afreximbank Backs Algerian-Led African Integration Projects: TSGP and Power Interconnections

Afreximbank, the African Export-Import Bank, has pledged its support for Algeria’s ambitious energy projects designed to boost economic integration across the African continent. This commitment, revealed by Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah during a meeting in Algiers, signals a significant boost for initiatives like the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) and regional power interconnection projects. These projects are crucial for fostering economic collaboration and development across Africa, focusing on leveraging its natural resources and infrastructure to drive sustainable growth.

Boosting African Energy Infrastructure with Afreximbank Support

During a meeting with Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, and accompanying officials, President Oramah emphasized Afreximbank’s readiness to assist Algeria in its pan-African energy endeavors. The discussions, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, centered on exploring opportunities for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the context of the TSGP and regional electricity grid projects. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of State in charge of Renewable Energies, Noureddine Yassaâ, alongside ministry officials. This backing from Afreximbank, a key financial institution for African trade and development, is a strong indication of the project’s viability and potential impact on the continent.

Algeria’s dedication to these infrastructure projects will receive a financial and technical lift.
