GTBank Kenya Transforms Post Offices into Agent Banking Hubs, Expanding Reach Across the Nation
In a strategic move to significantly broaden its customer accessibility beyond its limited physical branch network, GTBank Kenya has launched a groundbreaking partnership with Posta Kenya. The initiative sees 46 Posta Kenya outlets across the country repurposed into agent banking locations, branded as GTExpress, marking a significant step in the lender’s expansion strategy within the Kenyan financial landscape. With only 12 traditional branches, this collaboration is poised to drastically increase GTBank’s footprint, leveraging Posta Kenya’s extensive national reach.
GTExpress: Bringing Banking Closer to Kenyans Through Postal Services
The first phase of the GTExpress agency banking service is now fully operational, bringing essential financial services closer to communities in key towns. Customers can now conduct a variety of transactions at these designated Posta counters, including depositing and withdrawing cash, as well as opening new accounts. These services are available in prominent urban centers like Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kisii, Nyeri, Nakuru, and Nanyuki. GTBank Kenya emphasizes that the costs associated with these services are set below the prevailing market rates, making banking more affordable for a wider segment of the population. Jubril Adeniji, the Managing Director of GTBank Kenya, underscored the core mission behind this venture, stating, “Our priority is to make banking easier and more accessible for our customers, wherever they are. Through GTExpress, someone in Kisii, Nanyuki, or Kitengela can walk into a Posta outlet and carry out their transactions quickly, safely, and at a fair cost.” This innovative approach highlights the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion and convenience, leveraging existing public infrastructure to serve more Kenyans efficiently.
This collaboration between GTBank Kenya and the state-owned national postal service, Posta Kenya, represents a powerful example of how African financial institutions are embracing agent banking models to overcome geographical barriers and enhance financial accessibility. By turning post offices into vibrant banking hubs, GTBank Kenya is not only expanding its own operational reach but also contributing to the broader agenda of digital and financial inclusion across the nation, offering secure and affordable services where traditional branches might not be feasible.
