Streaming in Africa: Orange and Synamedia Bet on Multi-CDN Expansion

The African streaming market is poised for significant growth, with projections estimating a 50% expansion by 2030. Recognizing this potential, Orange and Synamedia have announced a strategic partnership at IBC 2025, a major European media, broadcast, and audiovisual technology exhibition held annually in Amsterdam. This collaboration focuses on bolstering content distribution through a multi-CDN approach. This move highlights the growing importance of digital media in Africa and the need for robust infrastructure to support it.

Multi-CDN Strategy and Technological Integration

This partnership leverages Orange’s content delivery network (CDN) infrastructure and Synamedia’s Quortex Switch platform. A CDN is essentially a geographically distributed network of servers designed to expedite the delivery of digital content – videos, streaming, and websites – to end-users. The primary goal of this partnership is to enable international content providers to broaden their reach, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, without requiring major overhauls of their existing technical setups. The integration, which has been available since March 2025, offers unprecedented flexibility through its multi-CDN solution. This allows providers to dynamically optimize content delivery based on factors like user location, network conditions, and the availability of CDNs, ultimately improving the streaming experience for African audiences.

This strategy underscores the importance of a robust and adaptable streaming infrastructure to support the growing demand for digital content in Africa.
