“We are Surprised”: Flutterwave Reacts to Ghana Suspension
Flutterwave, a prominent fintech player in Africa, has officially addressed the recent decision by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to suspend its remittance partnerships for a month, starting September 18, 2025. The suspension impacts Flutterwave’s SendApp remittance service, its banking partner, and other platforms involved in Ghana’s remittance market.
Flutterwave’s Response to the BoG Directive
In a statement released to the media, Flutterwave conveyed its surprise at the regulatory action. The company highlighted its dedication to promptly resolving the matter while ensuring continued operation of its other services within Ghana. The BoG’s notice, issued on September 4, 2025, alleges breaches of the 2023 Guidelines for Inward Remittance Services, specifically pointing to unauthorized inward remittance transactions conducted via Flutterwave’s SendApp and other money transfer platforms. “We are surprised by this directive as we have always maintained a cordial and collaborative relationship with the Bank of Ghana,” Flutterwave stated.
Flutterwave is committed to engaging with the Bank of Ghana to address concerns and rectify the situation, aiming to resume full remittance services as quickly as possible, while still serving its broader customer base in Ghana.
