Tunisian Consumer Organization Sounds Alarm Over Deteriorating Internet Quality, Demands Action

The Tunisian Organization for Consumer Information (OTIC) has issued a stark warning regarding the steadily declining quality of internet and telecommunications services in Tunisia. On Wednesday, September 3rd, the OTIC called for immediate intervention from regulatory authorities and the National Telecommunications Authority (INT) to safeguard consumer rights and ensure that internet service providers (ISPs) honor their contractual obligations.

Deceptive Practices and Neglected Complaints

According to the OTIC, major ISPs are consistently disregarding consumer complaints and continuing to market misleading offers that fail to reflect the actual technical performance. The organization highlighted specific issues such as non-functional telephone lines dedicated to handling complaints, call centers that leave customers on hold for extended periods, and the complete absence of compensation mechanisms despite frequent service interruptions. The OTIC emphasizes that reliable internet service is essential, particularly impacting education, work, and financial transactions, demanding swift and decisive action to rectify the situation.
