Israeli Drones Target UNIFIL Peacekeepers in Lebanon
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has strongly condemned an attack carried out by Israeli drones targeting its peacekeepers near the Blue Line, which demarcates the border between Lebanon and Israel. This incident, described as one of the most serious breaches since the ceasefire agreement last November, has led to the suspension of crucial clearance operations, though no injuries were reported.
# UNIFIL Condemns “Serious Violation”
According to UNIFIL, the Israeli military deployed four grenades on Tuesday morning in close proximity to a UN convoy. At the time, the peacekeepers were engaged in clearing road obstructions that were hindering access to one of their positions. One grenade landed within 20 meters of the UN personnel, while the other three fell approximately 100 meters from the UN vehicles. The UN mission emphasized that the Israeli forces had been informed in advance about these planned operations. Following the incident, all clearance activities were immediately suspended.
This event has triggered significant concern and has been denounced by UNIFIL as a “serious violation of Resolution 1701” of the Security Council. The targeting of peacekeeping forces raises serious questions about adherence to international agreements and the safety of personnel working to maintain stability in the region.
