Persistent ICUMS Network Disruptions Hampering Port Business in Ghana
Ghanaian freight forwarders are voicing serious concerns regarding ongoing network disruptions within the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), which are significantly slowing down port clearance processes. Call for Government Intervention
The Advocate for Indigenous Freight Forwarders is urging the Ghanaian government, through the Ghana Shippers Authority, to intervene and compel ICUMS system managers to resolve these persistent technical issues. Godfred Mawuli Tettey, Convenor of the group, emphasized the severity of the situation, highlighting the adverse impact on businesses and the potential economic repercussions for the state. The group warns that failure to address these ICUMS glitches may lead to protests. They suggest introducing competition into the port clearance system as a possible solution to mitigate the problems caused by the unreliable ICUMS platform.
