Y Combinator Leads Munify’s $3 Million Seed Round, Fueling Egyptian Fintech Growth

Egypt’s fintech landscape is heating up, with Cairo-based Munify securing a significant $3 million seed round led by the prestigious Y Combinator. This funding round, also featuring participation from BYLD and Digital Currency Group, marks a crucial milestone for the startup and signals growing investor confidence in the potential of financial technology in the MENA region, specifically Egypt and its diaspora. This investment will be instrumental in accelerating Munify’s mission to revolutionize cross-border payments and financial accessibility.

Munify’s Vision: Simplifying Finances and Expanding Horizons

Founded in 2024 by Khalid Ashmawy, formerly of Microsoft and Uber, and co-founder of the proptech platform Huspy, Munify is designed to tackle the financial challenges faced by Egyptians both at home and abroad. The company is focused on offering instant and low-cost money transfers to Egypt, facilitating US bank account opening, issuing debit cards, and providing Foreign Exchange (FX) tools designed to mitigate currency volatility. This seed funding will primarily be used to expand engineering efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive market expansion. Munify’s recent graduation from Y Combinator’s Summer 2025 batch places them among a select group of MENA fintech companies to successfully complete the accelerator program. Y Combinator’s involvement is particularly valuable, providing Munify with access to a global network of potential partners and a pool of talented individuals to grow its team.

This seed round represents a significant step forward for Munify and the Egyptian fintech ecosystem. With Y Combinator’s support, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for accessible, efficient, and cost-effective financial services, specifically in Egypt and the wider diaspora.
