Ghana’s DVLA Eyes 24-Hour Operations: Transport Minister Urges Modernization

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Ghana is being pushed towards a 24-hour operational model by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey. This move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s economic vision and seeks to enhance transport and mobility options around the clock, benefiting Ghana’s growing economy and leveraging advancements in digital technologies within the African context.

Modernization and Regulatory Support for DVLA

Speaking during the DVLA’s mid-year review held in Achiaakrom, Ejisu, Ashanti Region, Affo-Toffey underscored the critical role the Authority plays in facilitating around-the-clock transport solutions. The Ministry of Transport is committed to strengthening governance and regulatory frameworks, actively supporting agencies like the DVLA in their modernization efforts. The Deputy Minister emphasised the significance of commitment, discipline, and efficient resource management for collective success. The DVLA’s recent technological strides were also acknowledged, including the use of biometric data and the upcoming introduction of a new driver’s license card and vehicle license plate.

In celebration of its 26th anniversary, the DVLA is actively modernizing to keep up with the demands of the transportation sector.

The move to 24-hour operations represents a significant step toward a more efficient and accessible transport system, directly benefiting Ghana’s economic development. The initiative promises to enhance services and cater to a wider audience, solidifying the DVLA’s position in facilitating transport and mobility across Ghana.
