FG Unveils Portal for 2,000 CNG Tricycles to Empower Nigerian Youth

The Federal Government has officially launched a new e-portal to manage the distribution of 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered tricycles, a significant step in its youth empowerment and sustainable energy agenda. Announced by the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, at a press conference on Monday, October 8, the portal is designed for young Nigerians operating in the commercial transport sector. This initiative is a direct follow-up to the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative announced on October 1, which aims to provide affordable and eco-friendly transportation solutions while creating economic opportunities for the nation’s youth. The online platform will serve as the central hub for applications and selection, ensuring a streamlined process for interested individuals.

A Transparent Process for Empowerment

Minister Ayodele Olawande emphasized that the primary goal of the youth-focused portal is to guarantee a transparent and equitable selection process for the beneficiaries of the CNG tricycle program. Speaking on the mechanics of the new system, the Minister stated that the platform was developed to build transparency around the enlistment of young people into the Presidential CNG Initiative. By digitizing the application and selection stages, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development aims to eliminate biases and ensure that the 2,000 tricycles reach the intended demographic of deserving young transport entrepreneurs across the country. This digital approach is expected to foster trust in the government’s empowerment programs and provide a clear, accessible pathway for youths to participate.

This strategic move aligns with the government’s broader objective to promote the adoption of CNG as a cheaper and cleaner alternative to petrol, thereby reducing transportation costs and environmental pollution. The distribution of these tricycles is poised to not only boost the livelihoods of the selected youths but also contribute to the growth of a more sustainable transport ecosystem in Nigeria. As the portal goes live, it marks a critical milestone in turning the promises of the Presidential CNG Initiative into tangible economic benefits for young Nigerians.
