Telecom Egypt and NaiTel Connect Egypt and Jordan with New Subsea Cable
Telecom Egypt and Jordan’s NaiTel have successfully deployed the Coral Bridge, a 15km subsea cable system, creating the first direct digital link between Egypt and Jordan in over two and a half decades. This development is a significant milestone for digital infrastructure in the Middle East, and has important implications for the growth of digital technologies across North Africa, and the continent as a whole.
Coral Bridge: A New Digital Highway for Egypt and Jordan
The Coral Bridge subsea cable extends from Taba, Egypt, to Aqaba, Jordan, across the Gulf of Aqaba. The system is equipped with 48 fiber pairs, enabling it to transmit over a petabit of data. This substantial capacity will facilitate quicker and more efficient cloud computing services, advanced artificial intelligence applications, and various other digital services throughout the region. As a result of the new infrastructure, the region will likely experience a reduction in costs and a decrease in latency for users. On the Egyptian side, the Coral Bridge is the first cable to land at Telecom Egypt’s new Taba station. The cable’s Jordanian endpoint is the Aqaba Digital Hub’s Tier III carrier-neutral facility. This infrastructure investment supports the expansion of digital capabilities.
In conclusion, the Coral Bridge represents a strategic infrastructure enhancement. It solidifies the digital connection between Egypt and Jordan, fostering technological advancement and providing significant benefits for businesses and consumers in the region. This advancement will make it easier for companies to do business, as well as allow for faster service across the region.
