Ghana’s Government Banks on Data for Inclusive Growth
The Ghanaian government is aggressively integrating data into its core policy-making approach, viewing data-driven governance as a vital engine for economic recovery and broader social inclusion. This commitment is underscored by Ghana’s role as co-host of the upcoming Global Data Festival. This strategic shift aims to ensure that policy decisions are firmly rooted in factual analysis rather than speculative conjecture.
Data-Driven Governance and Economic Impact
Speaking at the Pre-Global Data Festival High-Level Meeting held in Accra, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the critical need for evidence-based governance. She highlighted the tangible benefits of this approach, attributing recent positive economic indicators to the use of data. Specifically, she cited a 5.3 percent expansion in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the first quarter of 2025 and a reduction in inflation to 12.1 percent in July. Furthermore, the Vice President noted that the shrinking fiscal deficit sends a positive signal for financial stability and economic growth. The government is linking these successes to the use of data to make more effective decisions.
