Ethio Telecom Aims for 88 Million Subscribers with Ambitious Three-Year Plan

Ethio Telecom, Ethiopia’s leading telecommunications provider, has unveiled an aggressive strategy to significantly expand its reach and services. The state-owned company plans to grow its subscriber base to 88 million within the current fiscal year, a substantial increase from its current 83.2 million users. This initiative is a core component of Ethio Telecom’s “Next-Generation Strategy,” a comprehensive three-year plan designed to accelerate the country’s digital transformation, aligning directly with the Ethiopian government’s 10-Year National Development Plan. This ambitious undertaking highlights the growing importance of digital infrastructure in the African technology landscape.

Expanding Digital Horizons

A key element of Ethio Telecom’s strategy is a massive investment in network infrastructure. To bridge Ethiopia’s digital divide, the company will focus on significantly increasing its network capacity and coverage. The plan includes the rollout of 1,228 new sites in urban centers and 322 in rural areas over the next three years. Moreover, Ethio Telecom aims to launch 5G services in 10 cities during the current fiscal year. These strategic expansions will be supported by the establishment of a wireless network capable of accommodating 112.4 million users, providing critical capacity for future growth.

Ethio Telecom’s commitment to achieving these goals will undoubtedly have a significant impact on Ethiopia’s digital landscape, potentially fostering economic growth and improved connectivity for millions of citizens.
