Koudiet Eddraouch Desalination Plant Reaches Full Production Capacity: A Boost for Algerian Water Security
The Algerian state-owned energy company, Sonatrach, has announced that the Koudiet Eddraouch seawater desalination plant in El Tarf has reached its full production capacity. This signifies a major achievement, with the facility now capable of producing 300,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day, equivalent to 300 million liters. This milestone follows the successful completion of all technical tests and quality control measures. The plant’s ability to operate at full capacity is a key development in bolstering Algeria’s water resources.
A Strategic Project Fully Operational
The Koudiet Eddraouch plant officially began full production on Thursday at 16:31 following an extensive technical and experimental process. This comprehensive undertaking encompassed all stages, from mechanical testing and quality assurance to safety compliance verification, ultimately culminating in the plant’s operational readiness. This process commenced after the official inauguration of the plant on February 25, 2025, by the President of the Republic, M. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The Sonatrach group, through its Algerian Energy company, has demonstrated its commitment to expanding critical infrastructure to alleviate water scarcity challenges in Algeria. This initiative highlights Algeria’s commitment to implementing advanced technologies and infrastructure to address water scarcity and improve the lives of its citizens.
