Oyo E-Hailing Drivers Reject Bolt’s Virtual Meeting, Demand Physical Engagement

E-hailing drivers in Oyo State, operating under the umbrella of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), have refused to participate in a virtual meeting organized by Bolt, a leading e-hailing company. Instead, they are insisting on a physical meeting to address pressing issues.

Mistrust and Transparency Concerns

Comrade Temitope Abraham, Chairman of AUATON’s Oyo State chapter, informed Technext that the proposed virtual meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 25, was deemed inappropriate due to several factors. These include a prevailing atmosphere of mistrust, concerns regarding transparency, and potential technical limitations that could hinder effective communication and resolution of issues. According to Comrade Abraham’s statement, the union has formally notified its members and the public of their decision to boycott the virtual meeting.

This stance highlights the ongoing tensions and the need for more direct and transparent engagement between e-hailing companies and their drivers in the Nigerian market, particularly concerning issues impacting their livelihoods and working conditions. The drivers’ insistence on a physical meeting underscores their desire for a more tangible and accountable dialogue with Bolt.
