Atuabo Plant Shutdown: Ghana Assures Stable Power Supply Amidst Maintenance
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition in Ghana has reassured citizens of uninterrupted electricity supply despite a scheduled shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. This assurance follows the ministry’s announcement on August 11, 2025, approving the plant’s planned maintenance, scheduled to occur from August 16th to August 30th, 2025. The government is proactively managing potential disruptions to ensure residents and businesses continue to have access to power.
Mitigation Strategies to Maintain Power Generation
During an interview on Joy News’ AM Show on August 12, 2025, as reported by GhanaWeb Business, Ministry spokesperson Richmond Rockson confirmed that the shutdown would result in a daily loss of approximately 95 million standard cubic feet of gas. However, he stressed that the government has implemented alternative measures to maintain a steady power supply throughout the maintenance period. These alternative solutions include the utilization of other gas wells to compensate for the shortfall caused by the Atuabo plant’s downtime. The government’s proactive planning highlights its dedication to ensuring energy security in Ghana, particularly during a critical maintenance phase.
