TLcom Capital Invests in TurnStay Through TAPSI Pre-Seed Fund

TLcom Capital, a venture capital firm specializing in investments across the African continent, has announced the addition of TurnStay, a South African travel payment platform, to its early-stage portfolio. This investment was facilitated through TLcom’s dedicated $5 million pre-seed fund, known as TAPSI TIDE Africa Pre Seed Investments, which was established in 2022 to support companies in their pre-seed stages. The inclusion of TurnStay underscores TLcom’s commitment to identifying and nurturing promising ventures within Africa’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.

TAPSI: Fueling Early-Stage African Tech

TAPSI, the pre-seed fund, provides investments of up to $200,000 to promising startups. According to Eloho Omame, a Partner at TLcom Capital, the firm’s strategy of pre-seed investment allows them to diversify their portfolio and invest across different stages of a company’s development. TLcom’s overarching objective is to generate substantial value in underserved markets by collaborating with African founders from the very beginning, supporting them through their entire lifecycle, potentially leading to acquisitions or even initial public offerings (IPOs).

Building a successful startup, especially in Africa, presents significant challenges. However, Omame highlights that early-stage support and collaboration significantly improve the chances of success. TLcom aims to work closely with founders, assisting them in their journeys and fostering mutual growth. This investment in TurnStay via the TAPSI fund exemplifies TLcom’s dedication to supporting and cultivating Africa’s innovative entrepreneurial landscape.
