Nigerian Startups Shine at Global Startup Awards (GSA) Africa
The Global Startup Awards (GSA) Africa, a leading independent startup competition in the region, has announced the winners of its 2022/23 edition in West Africa. The announcement was made at the inaugural GITEX Africa 2023 event held in Marrakech, Morocco. This year’s competition showcased exceptional innovation across various sectors, with Nigerian startups taking the lead.
Nigerian Dominance in West African Startup Awards
A total of fourteen startups from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Senegal, and Benin were recognized. Nigeria demonstrated significant entrepreneurial prowess, securing six awards, the highest number for any country in the competition. The winning Nigerian startups and their respective categories are: Awabah (Best Newcomer), Salubata (Startup of the Year), Crop2Cash (Best Agri-Tech Startup), Emergency Response Africa (Best Health-Tech Startup), Dataleum Limited (Best Ed-Tech Startup), and Xend Finance (Best Web 3.0 Startup). Ghana followed with three winning startups: 2Scale (Best Incubator / Accelerator Programme), Developers in Vogue (Diversity Role Model of the Year), and Ecosystem. These wins highlight the burgeoning tech scene within Nigeria and West Africa.
The GSA Africa awards are crucial for the region’s startup ecosystem, offering a platform for visibility, investment opportunities, and recognition of the innovative spirit driving economic growth. The success of Nigerian and Ghanaian startups in the competition is a testament to the talent and dedication present within the African tech landscape.
