Airtel Africa Foundation Launches ‘Tech For Her’ Initiative to Empower African Women

The Airtel Africa Foundation, the charitable arm of Airtel Africa plc, has unveiled its ‘Tech For Her’ program, an initiative designed to empower young African women through digital skills training. The program is currently focused on women aged 18-40 residing in Kenya, Zambia, and Uganda. It aims to address the digital skills gap and foster greater female participation in the burgeoning tech industry across the continent.

Program Details and Objectives

The ‘Tech For Her’ program focuses on equipping participants with highly sought-after digital skills, including Linux Administration, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics. The training is designed to prepare them for tech-related job opportunities both within Africa and internationally. The five-week intensive online program will be delivered in collaboration with Tertiary DNS. This partnership underscores the Foundation’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion across Africa. The flexible learning model accommodates both working professionals and those with more free time. Weekend classes are scheduled for those employed, while weekday sessions are available for non-working participants. Candidates must possess fundamental digital literacy and a minimum of a national diploma or equivalent in Science and Technology, or higher qualifications, to be eligible. Upon graduation, participants will have completed over 100 hours of intensive training.

Graduates of the program will be well-equipped to enter the tech workforce.

In conclusion, the ‘Tech For Her’ program is a significant step towards closing the gender gap in the African technology sector. By providing targeted training and resources, the Airtel Africa Foundation is actively contributing to the empowerment of African women and the growth of the continent’s digital economy.
