MTN Ghana to Temporarily Suspend MoMo Services for System Upgrade
MTN Ghana, a leading telecommunications provider in the African market, has announced a temporary interruption of its Mobile Money (MoMo) services. This planned downtime will affect all MoMo users across Ghana and is scheduled for the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025. The six-hour service suspension aims to enhance the performance and reliability of the widely used mobile payment platform.
Details of the MoMo Service Interruption
The temporary MoMo service suspension will begin at 12:00 a.m. and last until 6:00 a.m. on August 17, 2025. During this time, MTN Ghana customers will be unable to perform any MoMo transactions. This includes sending or receiving money, depositing or withdrawing funds, transferring money between accounts, and paying bills. The upgrade is geared towards boosting the existing infrastructure that supports millions of daily transactions, solidifying MTN’s commitment to a seamless and reliable service for its Ghanaian users. Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology and Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, confirmed the purpose of the interruption, stating, “Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable. This upgrade is to improve our services to you.” He explained that the suspension is crucial for technicians to complete the necessary system enhancements.
The temporary suspension of MoMo services highlights MTN Ghana’s ongoing efforts to maintain a robust and efficient mobile money ecosystem.
