Online Payment for Fuel Tax for Land Travelers: A Boost for Algerian Digital Services
The General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) in Algeria has launched a new online service facilitating the electronic payment of fuel consumption tax for vehicles traveling by land to neighboring countries. This announcement, made in a recent statement, marks a significant step towards digitizing tax collection and improving efficiency for both citizens and the government. The new system leverages the existing online payment platform, “Tabioucom,” streamlining the process for travelers.
How the New Online Fuel Tax Payment System Works
The DGI’s initiative allows for remote payment and receipt generation, eliminating the need for travelers to visit tax offices physically. The “Tabioucom” platform, accessible at https://tabioucom.mf.gov.dz, is available 24/7. It accepts payments via interbank cards (CIB) and Edahabia cards, making it accessible for a wide range of users within Algeria. The tax rates are set according to vehicle type. Tourist vehicles are charged 500 DA, while utility vehicles and trucks under ten tons pay 3500 DA. Trucks exceeding ten tons, as well as buses, are subject to a tax of 12,000 DA. The customs services are responsible for authenticating and validating the paid tax. This development aligns with the growing trend of digitalization in African countries, aimed at improving public services and enhancing financial inclusion through digital payment solutions.
The introduction of online fuel tax payments exemplifies Algeria’s commitment to embracing technology to simplify bureaucratic processes and improve citizen convenience. This move aligns with wider efforts across Africa to leverage technology for enhanced service delivery and supports the growth of digital payments within the country.
