On August 11th, Tunisia celebrated a significant step towards a sustainable energy future. Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, awarded certificates to 25 experts who completed training in energy management, based on the international standard ISO 50001. The training program is a part of a broader effort to promote qualitative growth and employment within the Tunisian economy.
Boosting Energy Efficiency in Tunisian Industry
The certification ceremony took place at the Ministry, with the Secretary of State Wael Chouchane, the Head of Cabinet Afaf Chachi Tayari, and representatives from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in attendance. The training program is integral to the “Qualitative Growth for Employment” (CQE) project, launched in February 2022. CQE seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Tunisian industries. The project assists businesses in effectively managing their energy consumption, ultimately striving to reduce their operational costs and environmental footprint. In total, 45 individuals from both the public and private sectors participated in the training. Furthermore, 22 industrial enterprises have received support to establish energy management systems compliant with the ISO 50001 standard.
The Minister underscored the importance of these certifications in driving the energy transition in Tunisia. By equipping experts with the knowledge and tools to implement energy management systems, the initiative empowers Tunisian industries to embrace sustainability and contribute to a greener economy, and to develop local capabilities in line with Africa’s increasing focus on sustainable energy solutions.
