Piaggio Scooters Set to Launch in Algeria Through HCI Partnership
Italian scooter giant Piaggio is poised to enter the Algerian market thanks to a new partnership with Halil Commerce & Industrie (HCI). This move marks a significant step for the European manufacturer as it taps into Algeria’s burgeoning two-wheeled vehicle sector.
HCI Expands Portfolio with Piaggio
HCI, a well-established family-owned enterprise within Algeria’s automotive industry, is spearheading this venture. Known for its long-standing collaboration with the Volkswagen Group through Sovac, and currently serving as the official representative for Opel, Fiat, and Citroën, HCI is diversifying its operations into the scooter market. This strategic decision reflects the growing potential of the two-wheeled vehicle segment within Algeria. This partnership aligns with the strengthening economic ties between Algeria and Italy, highlighted by Fiat’s recent factory establishment in Oran. The move comes after Piaggio’s CEO, Matteo Colaninno, engaged with Algerian authorities, including former Industry Minister Ali Aoun, in 2024 to explore potential opportunities within the country.
This collaboration signals Piaggio’s confidence in Algeria as a promising market for its scooters, with HCI’s established presence and automotive expertise providing a strong foundation for the brand’s introduction and growth within the Algerian transportation landscape.
